03/30/04 -- A letter to my family and my friends - - |
Everyday, you and I, and hundreds of thousands of commuters leave the security of our homes to face potentially dangerous roads and highways. Everyday we travel in our vehicles alongside our mobile neighbors, and oftentimes are unaware of the impending dangers or distress emergencies surrounding us, directly ahead of us, or beyond our line of sight until it is too late to respond or take preemptive action.
This new invention (US Patent #6,714,127) solves a critical road hazard driver reaction challenge problem by making all vehicle drivers traveling in a mobile neighborhood (I.e., within a pre-programmed magnetic angular orientation and range ~1/4-3/4 km radio frequency coverage area) aware of serious impending road emergency conditions and dangers in the immediate surroundings.
The invention implements a Severe Braking Warning System for Vehicles, which intelligently and automatically alerts drivers of the intensity and severity of braking vehicles ahead of them (US Patent #6,249,219) and is designed to operate an aural and/or visual alert warning signal pertaining to the preprogrammed severity threshold and nature of the emergency scenario encountered – this critical warning information is transmitted via radio frequency signals for alert aid directly to you inside your vehicle. Please note the invention is fully reprogrammable to provide threshold setting flexibility that can be easily customized for city versus mostly highway driving.
When you are on the highway you will know well ahead of time of a severe braking warning condition or a critical emergency problem including an accident or a construction zone ahead of you -- you will have an early warning signal provided to you beyond the line of sight (such as when driving under heavy fog conditions). The system will ultimately become a functional information system for vehicles when coupled to the IVI (Intelligent Vehicle Initiative) as envisioned.
We designed the system with the target intent to help eliminate vehicle chain reaction accidents. The alert intensity level notification you receive inside your vehicle will vary with the nature and severity of the immediate emergency encountered (static or dynamic).
The present invention is a true, bi-directional Emergency Information System for Vehicles building block that will implement the ability for drivers to transmit distinctive distress or warning signals in real-time to other vehicles in their immediate vicinity of a mobile network neighborhood of vehicles.
An emergency vehicle such as police, ambulance, or fire truck rushing to an emergency scene will now automatically warn you inside your vehicle well ahead of time that they are approaching and in the immediate vicinity signaling an alert for right-of-way use of traffic lanes. The system also alerts the driver of the specific types of warnings and particular emergencies (dangers) encountered.
In the future, and with advance emergency warning information instantly available, you will be able to make intelligent decisions and detour to an exit before getting stuck in a traffic jam.
The invention is a cornerstone simple solution to a complex, very costly, and deadly problem in America -- and is a major complement and building block to the USDOT Intelligent Vehicle Initiative program.
The system is a true driver assistant that is able to instantly deliver critical, as-it-happens, emergency warning lifesaving information on the spot for you, in real time! The invention is self-contained, indispensable to be installed in every vehicle for it will save your life and property.
The day is now when intelligent cars make automotive transportation safer, either by assisting human drivers or perhaps giving them the option of giving up the wheel entirely when they don't want to drive or shouldn't drive.
